A film I edited, Out of the Ash, is screening tomorrow at the 10th Annual Big Apple Film Festival, alongside Irina Patkanian's Armed Defense and Alejandro Rodriguez's In My Skin. A block of short films devoted to chance encounters and the residual pain of violent pasts.
A short drama set in New York and Africa, but shot in Scotland, Out of the Ash is the story of Foday and Mel (James Edward Becton and Bryan Fitzgerald respectively), two men who struggle with violent impulses borne of very different circumstances. A mugging brings the two together and sparks a confrontation over whether change is possible.
